Goodrich won the Tom Cole Greater Flint Invitational on Monday for the second year in a row and 5th time in school history. Colby Phipps and Brayden Raether combined to throw a shutout in the Finals of the Greater Flint. Drake Hukill started the game with a first pitch double and then Colby Phipps doubled in the first run of the game. Goodrich put up 3 more runs in the second inning thanks to a single by Ashton Jones and a double by Drake Hukill. Colby pitched a great game throwing 5 innings striking out six and only giving up one hit. Raether threw two innings of relief out of the bullpen. Losee, Hukill and Phipps all had two hits for Goodrich.
Tuesday Goodrich traveled to Birch Run and won both games. Mason Vitale and Brendan Cicalo combined for the shutout. Vitale went five innings giving up 4 hits and no runs striking out seven and walking one. Cicalo threw two innings in relief striking out 6 and giving up one hit. Phipps, Raether, and Rich had 2 hits each for the Martians.
In game two Nate Harville had 3 hits and an RBI while Britain Chandler had a hit and 2 RBI. Noah Keller and Brit Chandler combined to give up 4 hits and struck out 4.The fourth inning was key for the Martians. Hukill doubled and scored a run while Harville tripled scoring a run. Goodrich is now 25-10 heading into Districts where the will meet Brandon at noon.
It’s good to be playing well at the end of the season. Our defense was strong today and we played pretty well overall. It seemed like the boys were having fun but that is easy to do when you are winning. I hope we can carry some of that over to Saturday.
